Hi,

The universities with veterinary schools in the UK are:
Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Nottingham, Bristol, Cambridge and London.
All are of world class standard.

Hi i am Stephanie, 14 years old and i am from Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom and i would really like to become a vet. This year in my school i am choosing my subjects and i want to choose the correct ones. I had heard that i definatly needed an A or A* in Chemistry. So i am definatly taking on Chemistry and Biology.. Do i need Physics? Is there any other subjects that i need to take on?

Kind regards
Stephanie

Hi, Stepanie,

If your school curriculum allows it, I think you should do Physics as well as chemistry and Biology.
If you look elsewhere on this site at other contributions and responsen you will find a lot of relevant information.
Good luck to you with your exams.

Hi, Olivia,

I am sure that others will be able to give you more up-to-date advice than I,
but the more 'A' or 'A* grades you get, the better.
I do not think you need Maths as well as Physics.

Hi, Marylou,

If you want to become a vet. you have to stay at school and pass all your exams, O levels and A levels with good grades, and then go to Univesity for 5 years. It is very hard work and takes a long time.

You DO NOT need physics at A level to become a vet!!! you need biology, chemistry and one other science (MATHS OR PHYSICS). I am13 years old and even I know this. However you still need AAA or AAB (if you perform very well in an interview ABB might be accepted) there is something called the gateway course which is for less well off people and provided you pass this you are guaranteed a place in the vet med degree (you need at least CCC for this, or distinction in an animal diploma) Hope this helps

Hi, Francesca,

You have to work very hard at school, getting as many 'O' levels at A grade as you can, including as much science as possible, and then go for at least 3 A levels at A or A* including Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Maths,
You need to get as much experience as you can working with animals - volunteering to help in an animal welfare charity kennels, in a stable, on a farm at a veterinary practice or some such.
Your nearest University where you can study veterinary science is at bristol.

You could ask them the same question.

Good luck!

Hi i'm Connor and i live in the uk, i'm in yr7 and love studying about animals and wish to be a vet to help animals to survive so people can know what our wild and domestic animals are like and can study them. i would also like to be a vet so i can hopefully stop animals from going trough lots of pain. can you tell what lessons to study mostly at school? also, is it possible to be specialised in certain areas such as birds of prey?

Hey my name is Elizabeth and im heading towards a carrer in veterinary
im 16 and in my last year of school and soon looking for a college or uni.
i know that you need A's in the 3 science subjests bio chemi and physics
but the problem is is that i don't do physics Im dropping out of chemi because the teacher i currently have couldnt teach a dog to sit never mind a subject as difficult as chemestry but im really good at biology well capable of getting a A. honour level
If i was to carry on doing chemi i know that my grade would be somewhere around a D grade in pass level so it's not much good to me points wise ...so i was wondering if there's anything i could do to make my dream oneday become reality ???
Thank You

Hi,

I do not think that you have any chance at all of getting into vet school without an A in Chemistry. Either get some private tutoring, or forget the whole thing.
NB You could do with some tutoring in spelling, too!
