Hi I haven't known many simple cases of worm burden be the cause of prolonged inappetance. A big worm burden can damage the intestines and if this goes on for many more days he is going to become weak due to lack of food. Has he passed faeces and if so were they firm or loose. You will have to make another trip to the vet if these symptoms dont improve soon. Can you liquidise some kittenby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Kate I fear it is likely to hang around as a chronic infection. Take her back to your vet though and dont give up on her because possibly a longer course of treatment might make a difference. You do need to bathe and keep her nose clean for her. Cats hate having a blocked up nose.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi The trouble is he is scent marking by urinating to try to keep and establish the kitchen as his territory against your other cats. He clearly feels threatened and stressed by their presence and from his point of view he was there first from what you have said. You wont be able to make all the cats get along. Fundamentally cats prefere to be solitary creatures unless introduced to others aby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Liz Thank you for the update on your cat. That's good to know.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Michelle Your hamster may have a respiratory problem which is the cause of the noise when it is breathing faster. If this continues and/or the hamster becomes unwell lethargic and eats less you should take it to a vet. Antibiotics may be needed.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi NatNat Well I think you've done all you can here and if he's eating baby food he's getting liquid from it so probably doesnt need to drink. As you clealry care about him a lot I am sure you wouldn't want him to become so poorly that he suffering. You must bear that in mind if he's getting worse or stops eating, in any decisions about another trip to the vet.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Elizabeth Yes he might have broken his leg or there might even be some nerve damage to it after a fall. Is he lively and eating and able to move around lots even with a limp because that all makes a big difference about if he needs to see a vet. He is old and you are right to think that there might not be much that can be done for him but most pet animal vets do see hamsters. Just phone youby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
These signs in a hamster, especially one that you've only just got are not good at all. Any hamster showing signs of breathing difficulty and weakness/wobbliness is very ill. I am sorry but it may be now too late and I fear he has died.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Louloumoo Your male hamster is sick and sounds very weak. I agree you should not let him suffer so if he's stil around take him to a vet. They can tell you if there's any hope for him, but it doesnt sound good.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Sian Ella Your hamster could have a respiratory infection which is causing the squeaky sound each time she breathes. That would need medication with antibiotics. Only your vet can tell you for sure and prescribe the treatment. Better take them both along as sometimes infection spreads from one hamster to another, so both might be treated. I am guessing it would be easier for you to keep theby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi, That really doesnt sound good. I would advise you to get him to a vet soon. If this is really the case there is some tissue damage going on which could seriously threaten his health.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Abby, Your hamster's eye problem as you describe could have a serious cause such as an infection for which there's little you can do at home to help. It's important to check that she doesnt stop eating and drinking, signs of her becoming seriously ill, plus the eye is probably quite uncomfortable for her now so the best course of action would be to take her to your vet. Theyby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi I dont believe that any brand of cat food that is fresh would do this to your cat. I appreciate your financial difficulty but the smell from his mouth may be due to infection that has been there ages and that is not going to clear unless you get him a proper examiniation and treatment with antibiotics. As its been going on a while now, if you can mange to then please take him to a vet clinby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Certainly an old dog can start to lose bladder control even one that has been very clean indoors previously. I cant see why it would be a behavioural thing although if the grandchild keeps his grandparents very busy they might not have time to let the dog out as often to relieve himself!. It is most likely to be due to a loss of bladder sphincter muscle tone. It is worth having this problem asseby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi I would expect a fracture to take at least another 4 weeks. If you can him as confined as possible and without him jumping as you have, he will be in less pain and will heal more quickly.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Its not that long since you had your boys neutered so whilst they cant make her pregnant they may still have some urges from residual male hormones that make them want to mount her. She at the same time could be coming into her heat so she may encourage this. Mounting is sometimes a dominance behaviour in a male over a female so not entirely about mating. They are siblings so will generallyby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Mark There's various possibilities for the cause, but back pain would be one, did your vet suggest xrays of his spine to check it? I've posted your picture which is a great to illustrate your handsome cat and where his problem is.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi If it was acne it shouldn't have last a year. Its not possible to diagnose any skin lump for certain without tissue cytology. I would advise you to return to your vets and ask them to test it again, surgery to remove the lump may be needed if its starting to bother her.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Tiffany This sounds like a real challenge to fix as you have a medical problem with her bowels complicated by a behavioural issue. You will need to be patient as it could take a while yet. You dont say how long the problems were present before you tried the diet change. When bowel problems have been severe for months or years they take much longer to correct so at least there has been someby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Yara I think your cat most likely got bitten by another cat a couple of weeks ago. He certainly sustained an injury which was why he was showing pain. The hard lump that remains now may be scarring of the bony tail structure, there's not much flesh on a cats tail. As long as he's bright and eating and its not painful now when you touch him on the lump it is healing. If he can liftby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Older dogs are certainly more prone to developing skin lumps and your dogs various lumps and bumps all need to be checked even if removal isnt part of your plan. From their different locations they may not be related to each other at all but I cant be sure of that. Most lumps can be assessed by taking samples with what is called 'Fine needle aspiration' these are non-invasive andby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi It can sometimes take a very long time for traumatised rescue pets who have come from a difficult situation to settle down in new surroundings and change their habits. I dont feel that 6 months of being with you is that long for your cats so give them more time and they may gradually adjust to using the garden. They will probably always remain quite nervous and I suspect this is why they donby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi A healthy young kitten wont lose appetite just for being given parasite control. I suspect your kitten is ill and that's why she vomited and is now refusing her food. Next step needs to be taking her to the vet if she doesnt recover her appetite very quickly.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Is he scratching the skin as well as losing hair? If so the simplest thing to start with is to treat him with a flea control product. Anything more complicated than that treatment has to be done by your vet so you will need to take him along for an examination and diagnosis. Hair loss without irritation and scratching may be caused by a variety of hormonal conditions so tests will be neededby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Its not possible for me to say as it depends where exactly in the eye the cloudiness has developed. Various eye conditions can cause cloudiness and loss of vision and some of them, such as glaucoma, are also painful. Your vet needs to examine her eye condition to find out what treatment is possible.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi This sounds like an infection and there's not much you can do for him unfortunately. If there is any hope it will need to be via treatment from a vet.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi Nate These scabs might still be reaction to flea bites if they are very small. From what you say it sounds like you previously knew you had some fleas present? If so you do need to keep on treating regularly to prevent more fleas. You might also need to use a household flea treatment if there's a residue of them still around. If the scabs get bigger and your cat's skin is sore sheby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi I am guessing by now you will know if this really became a problem or not. In general if any problem lameness/soreness is minor or not present all the time, you can afford to wait and see if your pet's problem gets worse or gets better. This may have been a cat bite sustained during a fight, which hadn't become infected-yet. Often you cant feel much on a limb when this first happby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi No that's not very normal at all. It may not be affecting her health that much but her heat should not persist or happen that often. I suggest a check up at your vets. If you have no inention to breed her, either some hormone therapy to regulate her or just getting her neutered may be the best answer.by Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
Hi It was very brief but it sounds most likely that this was some type of minor seizure. Typical seizures are major or 'grand mal' events when dogs lay unconscious and go into violent spasms, but minor seizures can vary in symptoms quite a lot so there is no typical pattern with what happens. There may just be a brief period of odd behaviour. At least she had some blood work recentlby Cathy Wickenden - Ask The Vet
