Hi
It is usually a stress reaction when cats start this type of behavour. Whilst its really unpleasant for you, if you shout at him he will probably go and hide and soil somewhere else close by. Obviously the trip for neutering was a bit stressful but has anything else changed or upset him lately. Try to consider what else might have done that.
You need some anti-stress strategies which may include some of the Feline pheromone diffusers in the room. Finally if you cant stop him doing this can you leave him outside the bedroom and give him litter trays elsewhere-it has to be somewhere he feels safe and secure and not near his food or water bowls.
