Skin problem

I have a 7 year old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel who since September last year has been treated for a severe skin condition.
She has been on different types of anti-biotics, all sorts of shampoo and steroids. She has ups and downs but still we cannot completely cure her.
I have every confidence in my vet who I must say has been brilliant throughout.
I have changed her food to a gluten/wheat free food.
The last shampoo my vet prescribed was Dermocanis which I must say seems to be helping, however I feel the main reason for improvement in the past week is my purchase of an air purifier which filters the air and puts out pure air with ions.
Do you think I am daft or have you heard of this happening?
She has had lab tests for various things and they all show negative

Hi, Mal,
Chronic skin problems in dogs can be very difficult.
After 5 months fruitless treatment you could very reasonably ask your veterinary surgeon to refer you to a specialist veterinary dermatologist. If you are in the UK, all the University veterinary schools could help, or the Animal Health Trust at Newmarket. There are also several consultant dermatologists which your vet will know about.
So far as the ioniser is concerend, I have no knowledge of them causing this problem, but again a dermatologist is more likely to know than I.
