My cat Harley is a med. hair domestic, we got him 7 years ago ( he was a grown stray) so he is about 9 years old. Harley has always been thinner than our other cats. Last night we noticed that when he is touched he growls and he has not been jumping and playing with the other cats. It also seems like he has lost weight. I have not seen him eat but food is always down. He also is not coming to curl up in my lap or when he is called .He is just laying in dark places. he has had problems in the past with vomiting the local vet said it was just from hairballs, He vomits at least once a week for the past 7 years. We have 3 other cats so i cant tell whats going on in the litter box

I would always want to get a cat with these symptoms checked out by a vet in case there is a serious problem. Its not possible to know what is causing him to be grumpy but pain will certainly do that to a cat. Weight loss is also a significant and worrying symptom. I hope nothing bad is happening but I can't reassure you.
