Bloody wounds on Nose

Bloody wounds on Nose

Hi

We're looking for some advice regarding our Borzoi dog.

He's been bitten on the nose by something, his nose swelled up and there were small pustules. After being given anti-histamines the swelling has now resided, but he keeps scratching and rubbing his nose, consequently it has now literally turned into a bloody mess.

Every time it scabs over he re-opens the wounds by rubbing them.

We've tried fitting an Elizabethan collar, but this sent him into a blind panic (he's always been a bit nervy and highly strung), he was salivating very heavily, his heart was racing, and he was trembling.

We would appreciate any advice as to the way forward.

I suspect the reason it is still itchy is because it is infected so you will need some antibiotics. The vet should also be able to give a sort acting corticosteroid injection to stop it itching while the antibiotics get to work. You will also need to keep it clean by bathing in salty water.
