I messed up my highers due to reasons i won't go into, but according to all the prospectus's (sp?) ive looked at I need excellent results at my first sitting. Is there nothing else I can do to get into a veterinary course?

I suspect that you have blown it, but there is no reason why you should not ask the admissions secretary at the vet school of your choice if there is anything you can do to retrieve the position.
