Dear Paul Jones,

Yes, there is indeed a risk of a retained testicle undergoing neoplastic changes and becoming malignant, though the risk is not high.

If the testicle can be felt in the inguinal canal and it can be removed without actually going into the abdomen, it is a relatively simple procedure, and I would be inclined to get it done. If it intra pelvic, the operation is more com-licated and the risks need to be weighed up.

Whatever, do not breed with your dog - the condition is hereditary.
