Most animal welfare charities - the Blue Cross, RSPCA, SSPCA, Dog Trust, welcome offers of help from volunteers. Contact your nearest branch or adoption centre for information.
In Scotland, and in some parts of England, there are Pet Fostering Services which arrange temporary foster homes for the pets of the elderley who cannot afford kennelling fees if, for example, they have to go in to hospital.
