Hi Emily-Jayne,

In response to your post, have a look at the links for vet nurse:

www.learndirect-advice.co.uk/helpwithyourcareer/jobprofiles/profiles/profile169/

and for veterinary surgeon:

www.learndirect-advice.co.uk/helpwithyourcareer/jobprofiles/profiles/profile436/

Be aware that trainee vet nurses usually receive only minimum wage but that depends on the practice.

Try to get as broad an education as possible....just in case your plans change. The competition for vet school is very high, and the entry requirements are demanding. It would also be useful to get as much work experience as possible with various animal-related businesses and charities. Your school will be able to help you organise this.

Good luck!

Hi Emily,
Sorry this is late!!
First off, I'm not sure about vet nurses, but it takes 5 years (6 years at Cambridge) to train for vet. The job pays less than doctors, but if you work your way up you can get roughly £40k a year (I think!)
Secondly, there's advice on which options to pick in another post in the forum (it's a huge post - over 60 replies), so take a look at that.
