bioveterinary sciences?

hi i have been accepted at liverpool, london, lincoln and bristol universities to study bioveterinary sciences. I was wondering if anyone is currently studying at these universities and could advise which would be the best to accept.
This is taking into consideration that i would like to go on to study veterinary medicine as a postgraduate, regardless of cost etc.

Hi,

Why are you going the long way round and not going directly for veterinary medicine.? You may well find it more difficult to get into a veterinary course as a second degree.

I would like to go directly into the veterinary medicine course but sadly i dont have the high grades to compete with the high standards of students that apply for it....so its looking like its the long way round for me
i'm really stuck on which uni to choose, i think it has to be either London or Liverpool-any advice?
if i dont get into a vet course i can always go into conservation or research, but thats plan B

Hi, Casey,

Looking back over the postings I am still not clear whether you have been offered places at the Liverpool and London veterinary schools, or in Biosciences, as you first mentioned.
If it is the veterinary schools, both are excellent with highest international recognition, and it is a matter of personal preference where you would most enjoy living, near London or in rather more rural The Wirral.

sorry if it wasn't clear, i have been accepted at Liverpool and London to study bioveterinary sciences which is a new course that combines veterinary modules and Biology modules with the aim of supplying more researchers into public health when it comes to animals but also looking into new treatment methods. This is in light of the foot and mouth outbreak where in some places the lack of specialists lead to medics dealing with the research.
Sorry i went on a bit there if you already know..

Hi,

OK, now I understand.
I trust that you realise that such a degree will not entitle you to membership of the Rpyal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and that you will not be able to practise veterinay medicine and surgery?

yes i do realise this, and i hope to follow that degree with a veterinary medicine degree if i can get in and find the money!
otherwise i will have to think about conservation or research. maybe a phd..
thanks for your advise
