picked up a beautiful bird

Hi,

I picked up a big beautiful bird (a Bos Loerie). It's legs seem to be lame as its lying on its side all the time, but when I touch the legs or chest they respond and the muscles work. I got advice on how to treat it for shock from a retired bird "rehabilitator", she said I should give it sugar water, is that ok?

Thanks for the advice
