Re: Vet Students

Hi Georgia

It sounds like you've got a good grounding of animal experience there. Academically its much more challening to aim to be a vet than to get into veterinary nursing. For all the university vet colleges you will need high grades in science and/or maths A levels. For vet nursing the minimum is 5 grade C or above GCSE's but there are also Animal Diploma courses that you can take that lead onto vet nursing.

Take a look on www.rcvs.org.uk and also www.bvna.org.uk for more info

Good luck with your studies

I have been reading this forum all evening and have gathered that I will be needing 5 A grades at GCSE in sciences, maths and english and all the others grades A-C. Also, at A levels I need AAB in biology, chemistry and physics/maths and as much varied work experience as I can. I was just wondering if GCSEs are easier than me and my friends think? Because I really want this and my older cousins say that they were easier than they think but they didn't take some of the subjects I will be. I hope someone can give me an idea of how hard I will need to revise in the future!!! :D
xxxx

I have just recently received my GCSE results and got 6A*s and 4A's. I have great ambitions of going to university to study veterinary medicine after completing my a-levels.The only problems is that I am torn on what subjects to chose. I am definately choosing chemistry, biology and maths and I want to study a fourth but am unsure between physics and art. I am aware that art would be of no use to an aspiring vet and is a very time consuming a-level but I thought it would be good to choose a non-science, practical subject to show the universities that I am a rounded character, as well as the fact that I love art!! However my teachers told me that I got my best score in the physics exam! I am completely torn!! They also suggested that I keep on 5 a-levels. What I would like to ask is would the extra stress be worth it and do the subject I love or should I just do the three sciences and maths?

Re: Vet Students

Help! I really want to be a vet, but I'm not too great at Maths. I like science mostly, but we don't really do much biology, and if we do it's always leaves or human digestive systems or something. For my GCSEs there are no options that are science-orientated, but because I'm in top-set we have to take double science. Do I have to take Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at A level? I'm not sure whether I could do all of those. Is there any other jobs I could do that work with animals if I'm not qualified to be a vet? I know there should be plenty, but I don't really know what they are...

Thanks xD
Molly
